Hermits have time to be random.

Hi there. I'm James and I'll be your hermit today.

I already have a Substack for my writing, so this won't be that. This will be for all the random stuff I have also been posting there. About an hour ago I decided that the two should be severed from another, like a lost leg at Gettysburg.

There will be links for videos and music. Oddities of various kinds that I blunder into on Al Gore's internet.

Nina Simone/Sinnerman; good for what ails ya.

The late Jose Montoya was cool. Smooth. I wish I could say we were tight, but we really didn't know each too well. A little. I know two of his sons better, Vince and Joe, they're pretty cool, too.

Jose was this cool. During the invasion of Iraq I was putting together anti-war poetry event in Sacramento. Jose Montoya was the Sacramento Poet Laureate. Certainly I called him.
"Hola."
"Jose, I have an anti-war thing coming up, can you participate?"
"Sure."

I hadn't said my name, the date or location of the event. Didn't matter for him to say yes. He's in, man.

Jose Montoya 1932-2013

Jose was a poet, sure, but also an artist, a musician, and a professor at Cal State Sacramento.

Some drawings by Jose Montoya. You can see how he works them up.

For a JM poem I'm going to give you a link to the Poetry Foundation site. Something tells me that's legal, and posting the poem itself here might not me. The poem is called Los Vatos.

Finally, a news site I enjoy, click here for:

Stay random.
